How to make a 3D printed QR code sign that scans

A QR sign is only useful if a phone can scan the printed result. The editor rebuilds QR codes as clean geometry, keeps the foreground and background linked and checks the details that most often cause failed prints.

Generate a code or upload one

Open Add, enter a URL or text and choose Add printable QR. If you already have a QR image, choose Upload QR image instead. The app decodes the image and rebuilds the code as printable geometry rather than placing a fuzzy bitmap on the sign.

Edit the destination correctly

Select either half of the linked QR layer to edit its content. For an ordinary code, enter the full destination URL. The Wi-Fi template shows separate fields for the network name, password, security type and hidden-network setting, then creates the Wi-Fi payload for you.

A printed QR code contains fixed data. If you print a direct URL and later change or remove that page, the print cannot update itself. Use a URL you control and expect to keep, or point it at a redirect that you can manage.

Keep every module printable

The QR panel shows the module count and physical module size. Keep each module at or above the tested 0.8 mm minimum. Longer content creates denser codes, so shorten the destination where practical or make the QR physically larger.

Protect the quiet zone and contrast

The generated QR includes a four-module quiet zone. Do not cover it with text, a logo, a border or another shape. Use a dark foreground on a light background, or the reverse, with strong contrast. Similar colours and reflective finishes make scanning less dependable.

Test the printed result

Scan the preview as an early check, then inspect the sliced toolpaths to make sure modules remain separate. Test the finished print with more than one phone, from the distance and angle people will actually use. Reprint a Wi-Fi sign whenever its network details change.

    Do not place artwork or lettering over the blank border around the code.
